FISHING IN THE CAMBRIDGE AREA…..Contd.
The Old West River .. Fishing rights held by Histon & District Angling Society. The club controls the stretches from Hermitage Lock along the road side to the old pump engine, then the opposite bank through to Willingham Flats Bridge and a point beyond, then the South bank to Queenholm Farm right through Smithy. A slow winding river holding most types of fish, should be fished early in the day in summer, due to heavy boat traffic. Club permits are £18 Adult, £9 Junior & OAP. Day tickets £3 in advance. A surcharge is imposed for tickets sold on the bank. Membership available from Cooper & Sons. The club also holds the rights to the lake complex at Milton ( no day tickets available ) an excellent water for carp and good specimen fish. Covered by extensive bailiff patrols. The entire package costs £38 & £19.
Also available to the club is the Counterwash Drain from Earith to Manea on both banks where fishable, good for tench, roach, rudd and pike etc. No boats use this drain. The Ouse at Holywell from the church down to the Ferry Boat Inn. A moderate pace water holding the usual roach, chub etc. noted for some good bags of bream. Normally a productive water. The Ouse from Hermitage Lock up river for about one mile, on the south bank. Also Cawcuts Lake at Impington near the A14 trunk road - no day tickets on this water.
The Ouse controlled by the Over & Swavesey District A.S. From a point opposite the Pike & Eel Pub and upstream, also down to Sharps Corner and beyond. Membership is Adult £15 Junior & OAP £5. Permits available from Cooper & Sons.

Agrevo Angling social Club Drayton fen 80 acre lake containing good carp, tench, pike etc. Also Holywell lake, Holywell Pond, River Ouse and Swavesey Lake. Permits available from cooper & Sons. Adult £25 Junior & OAP £15. Day permits £5.
Ely Beet Social Club Roswell Pits situated near the Queen Adelaide bridge near Ely - day permits are available on the bank. Barnwell Pit, situated by the Newmarket Road, close to the Cambridge United Football ground. Day permits on the bank - No closed season on this water.
WATERS OPEN DURING THE CLOSED SEASON All lakes and pits controlled by Cambridge Fish Preservation A.C. Agrevo Pits ( by out of season permit available from Cooper & Sons ) Cawcutts Lake Out of season permit £10 no concessions no day tickets.
