When I first heard of the Fishing Simulator, I must admit to being a bit sceptical due mainly to the fact that I have collected a few of these type of programs in the past. But have found the majority of them to be completely based around Bass and lure fishing, I'm not knocking that side of our sport it's just that I don't do it. So I checked Jason's site out and read the introduction. The first thing that came across was the fact that he tells matter of factly about the product, no bells, flashing lights and big time sales talk. Not only that but you can download a fully working (with only a few restrictions) version to allow you to really get to grips with it. After spending a lot, lot longer on it than I had initially planned and catching a nice selection of fish into the bargain I will readily admit that I am hooked (pardon the pun) on this one. Whether you like float fishing, legering, swing tipping, quiver tipping or using bite alarms its all there and in excellent detail too. If you prefer the competitiveness of match fishing or just the pleasure of wetting a line (to coin a phrase) and seeing what comes along, then that's there too.
Whether you decide to go practice or enter a match you are shown a screen which allows you to either select a swim or shows you which one you have drawn. From this you can accurately decide on your tactics and then go to the tackle screen and select your tackle and baits. This is another very well thought out and detailed section presenting you with float boxes, leger boxes, various hook sizes and line. Another factor that makes this game so realistic is that you can make up your own groundbait mix by selecting various baits and putting them into the groundbait mixer. The realism settings are another thing that makes this program stand out from the crowd, you have numerous settings you can alter to suit beginners right up to the experts. Jason has also geared his site up to allow for future download packs which will include more tackle, more baits and different venues as they become available. All this for only £19.99 for a CD version with manuals!
The only thing missing from my sessions were getting cold and wet, mind you while I was enjoying my session it was high winds and heavy rain outside, and there I sat at my peg and the weather? Heavy rain and 25mph winds! Now that's realism for you.
I could go on and on about the merits of Jason's Fishing Simulator as I could find no downsides to what is an excellent program that will give endless hours of entertainment, especially if you push it to the limit and use all the features on offer but I would advise you all to log on to Jason's web site at http://home.freeuk.net/jcspooner download the evaluation copy and see for yourselves.
If you contact Jason for any reason regarding the Fishing Simulator please mention you first saw it in Tackle Mart. We have no personal gain in these reviews, we just like people to know we are doing our best for them all. Ed.
